Assimilation and Mutilation: The Forced Sterilization of Indigenous Women

Tuesday, March 13

On Tuesday, March 13th at 6:00 pm, the Library will host Jean Whitehorse as she details the the life of a boarding school student and explains how forced sterilization came about, affecting many Indigenous Women. Jean Whitehorse of Smith Lake, is Dzilt'aadí (Near the Mountain Clan), born for Tódích'íi'nii (Bitter Water Clan). Ms. Whitehorse is an Outreach Specialist with the Crownpoint Outreach Center of the New Mexico State Library. She has been recognized for all her efforts providing much needed training to residents via the chapter houses. She has also advocated for Native American rights and was present at the Indians Of All Tribes (IOAT), occupation of Alcatraz.
