  2. "Shadows of the Imagination" Opening Reception with Artist Aaron Yazzie

    April 14, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Main Branch

    The Library is honored to present the creations of Aaron Yazzie throughout the month of April at the main Library. Mr. Yazzie was born in Gallup but originates from Bááhááli, NM. He is Diné (Navajo) and his clans are Two-Who-Came-To-The-Water and is born for the Towering House Clan.

    Mr. Yazzie attended UNM and transferred to the Institute of American Indian Arts to pursue a BFA in Studio Arts. His primary medium is two-dimensional, which encompasses a wide variety techniques. His other practices include weaving, writing, ceramics and photography. By layering intricate patterns, organic forms, vibrant palettes, and gestural mark-making, he creates dynamic images that are inspired by nature, memory, culture, mysticism, and the metaphysical. His most recent awards include participating in the Chaco Canyon Heritage Project Artist Residency a Site Scholar nomination for Site Santa Fe Scholar Program. He will be graduating from IAIA in the spring of 2018.
